There have been several Moon Knightleaks over the last few days, each one giving us a further glimpse at Marvel's newest vigilante, but this newest leak offers us arguably out best look yet. Some official concept art depicting the titular superhero has now found its way online, showing Moon Knight's unorthodox costume in all its glory.

While the source of the image is currently unknown, the concept art certainly tracks with what we have seen of the Moon Knight suit in the various other leaks that have happened lately. Rather than having the hero wear a more tactical, Batman-esque suit as many expected, the costume instead leans heavily into the character's supernatural roots, with the cape in particular looking like something ethereal as opposed to just a piece of cloth or leather.

Much like many of Marvel's costumes that have leapt from the pages of the comics into live action, Moon Knight's outfit falls somewhere between hewing closely to the source material whilst also making some pretty substantial changes. The color scheme is there, as is the mask and hood, but while the comic book costume tends to look more like armor or spandex, the suit for the Disney+ series appears to be made up of rags and mummy-like bandages. No doubt these changes will split the Marvel fanbase right down the middle...

This take on Moon Knight's costume certainly ties in nicely with his origin, which tells a rich, complicated tale ripe for a serial adaptation. Before becoming a superhero, Marc Spector grew up in Chicago and eventually became a heavyweight boxer before enlisting as a U.S. Marine. Following his military career, Spector becomes a mercenary, which leads to him taking on an assignment involving an archaeological dig in Egypt, where a statue of the Egyptian moon god Khonshu has been uncovered.

As is so often the case with these kinds of comic book dealings, the situation goes awry, and Spector is betrayed by his employer, Raoul Bushman, and left to die at the dig site in the freezing temperatures of the night. Before succumbing to what is surely an inevitable death, Khonshu comes to him in a vision and tells him that if he becomes his embodiment on Earth, he will let him live. And so, Spector awakens and becomes Moon Knight, returning from Egypt with his new superpowers with vengeance and crime-fighting in mind.

One of Marvel's lesser-known vigilantes, a unique aspect of Moon Knight is Spector's dissociative identity disorder, which manifests itself in the form of three separate personalities, the rich entrepreneur Steven Grant, taxi driver Jake Lockley, and, of course, the silver-cloaked crime-fighting vigilante character, Moon Knight. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has since confirmed that this aspect will be a crucial element of the upcoming Disney+ series saying, "The mental illness is a unique aspect of the program."

Starring Oscar Isaac stars as Marc Spector AKA Moon Knight alongside May Calamawy and Ethan Hawke, both of whom have been cast in undisclosed roles, Moon Knight is scheduled to be released in 2022, and will consist of six episodes. It will be part of Phase Four of the MCU. This comes to us via Twitter user Moon Knight Updates.
