With Disney+ series Moon Knight edging closer and closer, several details have now been revealed, including a description of the Marvel hero’s array of superpowers and clues regarding the character’s unique origin story. Coming courtesy of the site Disney Latino, the description hints at a surprisingly faithful beginning for the character. Though it sounds like the series will drop us in after Moon Knight has gained his abilities, with both the audience and Oscar Isaac’s Steven Grant unraveling the origin throughout the series.

“Grant suffers from dissociative identity disorder, a psychological pathology he discovers after having flashes from another life. From there, the mercenary Marc Spector, a parallel identity in him, begins to manifest,” the report begins.

As he slowly uncovers the activities of his other identity, Steven will discover links with the Egyptian god, Khonshu, who “negotiates with Marc to become the bearer of his powers on Earth. Spector, who in those circumstances was already a former military officer, former CIA agent, and still worked as a mercenary, is abandoned by his companions during a mission and the Egyptian deity appears there to save his life.”

Thanks to this deal between the man and the god, Marc Spector emerges with a variety of superhuman abilities, including “Olympic-level athletism, capable of performing complex acrobatics, a talented combat strategist and a great variety of weapons.” All of which are likely to come in very handy when tackling gangs of nameless goons and criminals.

These details suggest a story that will hew closely to the Marvel Comics source material, which also finds the mercenary Marc Spector left for dead and making a pact with Khonshu to become his embodiment on Earth in exchange for resurrection. And so, Spector awakens as Moon Knight, returning to the U.S. with his newfound superpowers and investing himself into a crusade against crime and corruption. No doubt Steven Grant will have a hard time believing all this as he gradually discovers Marc Spector’s fantastical past.

Moon Knight Will Make Weird, Risky Decisions

Oscar Isaac, who will lead Moon Knight, has praised the freedom afforded to them when bringing the character to life on the small screen rather than the big. "There was a lot of room to try stuff because there wasn't the pressure that we got to make sure we make however many hundreds of millions of dollars on the opening weekend,” the actor explained. “So we could make it very point-of-view. We could make very weird decisions. At the moment, at least — and I don't imagine it's going to go backward — it feels like that's where more of the risk is being taken because it can, financially."

Created by Jeremy Slater for the streaming service Disney+, Moon Knight is being directed by Mohamed Diab, Justin Benson, and Aaron Moorhead and stars Oscar Isaac as Steven Grant/Marc Spector AKA Moon Knight alongside Ethan Hawke as Arthur Harrow, the late Gaspard Ulliel as Anton Mogart/Midnight Man, and May Calamawy, who has been cast in an undisclosed role. Moon Knight is scheduled for release on March 30, 2022, and will consist of six episodes as part of Phase Four of the MCU.
