Following the conclusion of Moon Knight on Disney+ earlier this year, the series appeared to be crying out for a second season after holding off introducing Jake Lockley, the third persona of Oscar Isaac’s Marc Spector, until the post credit scene of the show. However, Moon Knight was then nominated in the Limited Series category at the Emmys and in the wake of the series finale, it seemed that no one was looking at another season. That could be something that has now changed with Moon Knight director Mohamed Diab teasing season 2 by sharing a TikTok video showing him and Oscar Isaac in Cairo.

Moon Knight brought a new level to the MCU, with a mostly stand-alone series that didn’t rely on connections to the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe to pull in views. The series followed gift shop attendant Steven Grant, a gift shop worker who suffers from Dissociative Identity Disorder and has another personality by the name of Marc Spector, who with the help of Egyptian god Khonshu becomes Moon Knight. As the two personalities must work together to foil the plans of villain Arthur Harrow, played by Ethan Hawke, the series ended with a kaiju-style brawl between Khonshu and the deity Ammit and a smaller scale battle between Harrow, Moon Knight and Scarlet Scarab (May Calamawy), ends in victory for the heroic duo.

In the shared video, Diab’s daughter asks the question of whether there will be a second season of Moon Knight, and then pans the camera to see Diab sitting next to Isaac, who comments, “Why else would we be in Cairo?” You can check out the short clip below.

Moon Knight Season 2 Has Not Officially Been Announced Yet

While this is by far the most official announcement about a second season of Moon Knight being on the way, there has so far been no reveal by Marvel Studios. However, when speaking at SDCC last month, Kevin Feige revealed a lot about the next few years of the MCU, but there was no mention of a possible continuation of Moon Knight’s story. That could be for the simple reason that the main Marvel Studios panel at Comic-Con was focussed on the big reveals around the Multiverse Saga, of which Moon Knight doesn’t seem to be a part of.

There are a lot of gaps to be filled in the Marvel timeline of Phase 6, and somewhere in the middle of that could be a second season of Moon Knight and that could actually be very telling for the future phases of the MCU. Marvel are well known for hinting at what is to come rather than simply dropping it on audiences fully formed. While there are currently being hints to mutants being dropped in series like Ms. Marvel and potentially She-Hulk, Moon Knight’s true place in the MCU could become apparent after the Multiverse Saga comes to an end and the next Marvel saga begins.

Disney have revealed that there will be even more Marvel information delivered during D23 Expo in September, which could include an official Moon Knight season 2 announcement. For now, the first season of the show is available on Disney+.
