Moon Knight shoots for the moon in some brand-new images from Empire. Moon Knight aims to be Marvel's unique take on a very special character. With multiple personas thanks to a disorientating case of dissociative identity disorder, a brutal way of dealing justice and a supernatural connection to Ancient Egyptian god Khonshu. Moon Knight has plenty of layers and more things going on in the mind of Steven Grant then one could write down. Or is it Marc Spector? Or Both?
Disney+ has given us so many Marvel series that gives the spotlight to supporting characters previously established in blockbuster movies over the last year however, the MCU is about to introduce some new blood in its darkest streaming series yet. Kevin Feige spoke out about what fans can expect from Moon Knight and teased that the titular character is rather "brutal."
“He’s brutal,” Feige tells Empire, citing the streaming service as a space to expand what an MCU story can be. “It’s been fun to work with Disney+ and see the boundaries shifting on what we’re able to do. There are moments [in the series] when Moon Knight is wailing on another character, and it is loud and brutal, and the knee-jerk reaction is, ‘We’re gonna pull back on this, right?’ No. We’re not pulling back. There’s a tonal shift. This is a different thing. This is Moon Knight.”
Oscar Isaac Says Moon Knight Is Very Different From Other Marvel Projects
“It is risky,” Oscar Isaac tells Empire of the series. “He’s an obscure hero, and the things we’re dealing with are very different. But because it’s a limited series, rather than a movie, the pressure isn’t there to make sure the opening weekend is massive. We’re able to take more risks, to bring that experimental quality on a huge scale.”
The official synopsis for Moon Knight reads: "The series follows Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, who becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life. Steven discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. As Steven/Marc's enemies converge upon them, they must navigate their complex identities while thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt."
The new issue of Empire takes a deep-dive into Marvel’s newest hero.
