A Moon Knight sizzle reel gives us our first look at Oscar Isaac as the Marvel vigilante, Moon Knight. Released exclusively to Disney+ (at least for now), the clip provides a sneak peek at the upcoming comic book outing, and even gives us a glimpse of Isaac all suited up as the titular character, leaping across the rooftops at the dead of night.

The series will clearly lean into the gloomy atmosphere often found in the pages of Marvel comics, with Oscar Isaac looking positively terrified as the troubled Marc Spector before looking positively celestial as Moon Knight. In the footage, Spector struggles to differentiate between his waking life and his dreams, as violence seemingly follows him throughout both.

One of the Marvel universe's lesser-known vigilantes, Moon Knight has a rich, complicated origin story that is ripe for a serial adaptation, and should provide the MCU with one its most unique outings. Rescued from certain death by the Egyptian moon god Khonshu during a criminal assignment gone wrong, mercenary Marc Spector awakens and is transformed into the super-powered Moon Knight. Deciding to leave his mercenary days behind to instead fight crime and corruption, the unorthodox hero often uses violent methods to tackle street-level goings on, with some recent training footage featuring Oscar Isaac demonstrating the kind of tactical fighting skills that he will implement.

Aside from his spooky alter ego, Moon Knight is known for having dissociative identity disorder, which manifests itself in the form of three separate personalities, each with distinctive traits, identities, and even fighting styles. These identities include the rich entrepreneur Steven Grant, taxi driver Jake Lockley, and, of course, the silver-cloaked crime-fighting vigilante character, Moon Knight. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has since confirmed that this aspect will be a crucial element of the upcoming Disney+ series saying, "The mental illness is a unique aspect of the program."

Directed by Mohamed Diab, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead and written by Jeremy Slater, Moon Knight stars Oscar Isaac as Marc Spector AKA Moon Knight alongside May Calamawy and Ethan Hawke, both of whom have been cast in undisclosed roles. Hawke, whose role in the series remains a mystery, has since praised the work of Oscar Isaac in bringing the Marvel antihero to life. "If you were an actor in the '50s, you know, they made Westerns. If you're an actor in the 2020s, you've got Marvel," Hawke said.

"And I'm really fortunate because we're dealing with a story that doesn't have a lot of ancillary baggage. If you play Spider-Man or Batman, they've got so much baggage and the audience have such expectations. It's like playing Hamlet - you can't play it in a vacuum. You're playing it in relationship to the other Hamlets. Whereas with 'Moon Knight,' people don't know much about it. It doesn't have a lot of baggage. [Oscar Isaac] is giving an absolutely phenomenal performance, and it feels exciting to be a part of it with him."

Moon Knight is scheduled to be released in 2022 on Disney+, and will consist of six episodes as part of Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
