Spoiler Alert: Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of MadnessThe most recent addition to Marvel's television shows, Moon Knight, is widely popular and has stimulated several conversations on religion and mental health. The series stars Oscar Issac as Steven Grant, Marc Spector, and Jake Lockley. He also portrays Mr. Knight and Moon Knight, the personas Steven and Marc take on while acting as the Avatar for Konshu, the Egyptian god of the moon.

Viewers watch as Steven and Marc try to prevent Arthur Harrow (Ethan Hawke) from resurrecting Ammit, an Egyptian goddess known for her judgemental streak. They're successful in their task by the end (maybe a little too successful), but their journey seems to be far from over.

Disney+ has not confirmed what awaits Moon Knight. While speculation over a season 2 continues to make the rounds, fans are curious where Moon Knight's story could go from here. There are plenty of options, from Moon Knight appearing in other films and shows in the franchise, the character never appearing again, or even getting renewed for another season. Of all those options, a second season doesn't seem like the ideal way for audiences to get to know Jake (and Steven, and Marc) and Konshu better.

With the introduction of Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) in Hawkeye, and Wanda/Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) seemingly coming down from the hold the Book of the Damned had on her in Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, there is the possibility that the next stage of both their involvements with the MCU is as part of the West Coast Avengers. While the formation and story of the group would have to change drastically based on the route the films and shows have taken so far, it would be a dynamic group of characters to see come together.

Moon Knight was invited to join them after saving members of the team stranded in Ancient Egypt. While he didn't stay with the group long-term, it may be the way to include Moon Knight in future installments in the franchise and have him meet other MCU characters without requiring a second season.

It may also be the way for the present Moon Knight identity, Jake Lockley, to show he isn't as evil as that final scene made him out to be or present him as a villain the rest of the Marvel universe needs to be worried about. It provides an avenue (and there are plenty of others) for the character to come back that doesn't require another six-episode dedicated to it.

The post-credits scene of the final episode gave a look at where Moon Knight ended up after his wild ride through Duat. Steven and Marc believe they've given up the persona for good, but a third identity, Jake Lockley, is still operating on Konshu's behalf. The other two seem to have no idea that Jake is there continuing Konshu's work, starting with completing the task Steven and Marc couldn't do. While Harrow won't be around anymore, there are probably several enemies of Konshu's that require a similar amount of attention.

With cut cameos from an Eternals character, the Moon Knight series works as a standalone. However, it can't work as its own entity forever. If Konshu starts sending Jake after more of his enemies, the series would be forced to continuously introduce new characters or use some that fans are already familiar with. Rather than create another season that also stands alone, the Avatar can be written into another property, tying it together with someone or something else. That could be the Eternals, like the cut cameos intended to, or to Bishop and Maximoff like previously discussed. Really, the possibilities are endless and might provide a better viewing experience than a second season would.

The Life of an Avatar

Jake isn't the only Avatar we know of; Layla (May Calamawy) is likely still an Avatar for Taweret, taking on the persona Scarlet Scarab, though we can't be sure yet. The arrangement between her and the Egyptian goddess of women and children was supposed to be temporary, but there doesn't seem to be a way that the human in the equation can extract themselves without the god or goddess willingly selecting another Avatar. Layla wasn't mentioned in the post-credits, so audiences really don't know where she stands.

Rather than a second season focused on Jake/Moon Knight, a limited series on Layla may pack more of a punch. Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) is getting her own series with the success of WandaVision, rather than another season of the series, so it isn't out of the realm of possibility for Layla to receive one. It would give the writers more room to explore her character and backstory and still leave room for Isaac to return in some capacity, especially in flashbacks to their life together. Maybe Layla will even appear in other upcoming shows. Calamawy is certainly on board, hoping for crossovers with Agatha and Blade.

There's no word on where his journey will go yet, but Moon Knight's story is best explored through avenues that aren't a second season, no matter where he ends up next.
