The next stage in the ever-growing Sony-slash-Marvel multiverse, Morbius, will soon be upon us, and several new details regarding The Living Vampire’s first outing have now been revealed. Starring Jared Leto in the lead, both the runtime and the rating for Morbius have been unveiled courtesy of Cinemark, who reveals that the movie will be 108 minutes long, including credits, and has been rated PG-13 for “for intense sequences of violence, some frightening images, and brief strong language.”

Sony seems to be enjoying filling their Venom-Verse with shorter adventures, with the recent sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage lasting a rather brisk 97 minutes long (1 hour and 37 minutes). Wrapping things up in just under 2 hours is no bad thing of course, so long as Morbius has plenty of time to tell a satisfying origin story for the titular Marvel antihero, and cement the character’s place in the wider multiversal franchise.

The PG-13 rating, while expected, is sure to have some fans concerned that Morbius’ fangs will be a tad blunt. The last thing anyone needs is more bloodless violence, as we’ve already had more than enough of that thanks to Venom’s utterly gore-less head chomping.

Morbius will introduce one of Marvel's most compelling and conflicted characters as Academy Award winner Jared Leto is transformed into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success soon reveals itself to be a remedy potentially worse than the disease, transforming the good doctor into a conflicted monster.

Directed by Daniel Espinosa, Morbius stars the likes of Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson alongside Leto, who has described the project as "a Jekyll and Hyde story that's just big and fun, and sometimes is a little scary, which is, I think, different for that genre. And I'm excited about it. That should be a big, fun popcorn movie."

Morbius will continue to further expand upon the Sony multiverse, with the more recent footage having even name-dropped Tom Hardy’s symbiotic antihero, Venom, by name. Intriguingly, the movie looks to include elements from all across both the Sony and Marvel Cinematic Universe franchises, and will also include Michael Keaton as Spider-Man: Homecoming villain Adrian Toomes AKA The Vulture, which could, according to Leto, lead to the big-screen debut of The Sinister Six. “In the film version of Morbius that we’re bringing to you now, he’s also a part of a much larger universe,” Leto said at Brazil CCXP 2021. “If you’ve seen the last Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer, you know the Multiverse has officially opened, and there’s all kinds of opportunities for villains to meet up, thrive, and maybe even nurture their more sinister intents. That’s all I’m gonna say for right now.”

Following a series of delays, Morbius is scheduled to be released in the United States on January 28, 2022.
