How exactly Sony’s upcoming Marvel outing, Morbius, fits into the multiverse has been one of the hottest burning questions surrounding the Spider-Man spinoff. Well, the answer to that question may come as a huge disappointment as it seems that Morbius place in the cinematic multiverse is...an anti-climax, with the movie cutting a lot of the exciting Easter eggs glimpsed throughout the various trailers.

Twitter user @Tom_Smith717 claims to have seen the finished film, and reveals that Morbius has done away with many of the clues hinting at its place in the multiverse. Many had wondered how exactly Morbius would fit in, seeing as there have been winks and nods towards all manner of Spider-Man franchises, including the MCU and The Amazing Spider-Man. Sadly, it sounds like most of these have been left on the cutting room floor for some reason. This was all later collaborated by That Hashtag Show's Nick Santos.

The presence of Michael Keaton as Spider-Man: Homecoming villain Adrian Toomes AKA The Vulture has been by far the biggest that Morbius will have a strong relationship with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but while we have all been hugely excited to see Keaton return, the reaction reveals that the actor will only appear in a post-credits scene.

So, it seems that a lot of the anticipation surrounding Morbius may well have been a cynical trick to get audiences to flock to see the Sony outing and finally discover the movie’s place in the multiverse. This is sure to come as a disappointment to many, with the early reactions to Morbius so far now revealing that, in a move that oddly runs opposite to the likes of Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, not only are there zero big surprise cameos, but there are even fewer Easter eggs than in the trailers.

Despite Morbius sounding like something of a damp squib, star Jared Leto has teased his vision for the future of the Marvel antihero. The actor, at the very least, wants Morbius to crossover with the likes of Spider-Man and fellow Sony superhero, Venom. “I'll tell you, I would love to get in the ring with Spider-Man. I think Tom Holland is amazing, and we'd make quite a dynamic duo,” Leto said about teaming up with the beloved web-slinger.

"Besides Robert Downey, Iron Man, there are so many people that that would be fantastic, but of course, Venom would be would make a lot of sense. That would be fun," the actor has since added regarding further crossover ideas.

Directed by Daniel Espinosa and written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, Morbius stars Jared Leto as Michael Morbius alongside Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson. Morbius introduces the latest character in the Sony Spider-Man Shared Universe, as Dr. Michael Morbius is transformed into a vampire after attempting to cure himself of a rare blood disease.

Morbius is scheduled to be released in the United States on April 1, 2022, after being delayed several times from an initial release date of July 2020.
