Morgan Creek Productions has nabbed Rand Ravich's Russian mob script Gregory Burns, with Universal Pictures on board as domestic distributor.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the thriller centers on the title character, an Arizona cop who goes undercover to take down a Los Angeles-based Russian crime family.

Morgan Creek International and Universal Pictures International will distribute the film in foreign territories.

The script has been on the top list of many film executives' potential development projects since well before mob films like The Departed hit it big at the boxoffice. Ravich, who wrote and directed the Johnny Depp sci-fi thriller The Astronaut's Wife, created the NBC drama series "Life" and exec produced George Clooney's Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.

No word on when the film will begin production has been announced.
