Many believe that the MCU is one of the few things this alternative timeline we are currently living in has gotten right. So it should come as no surprise that Avengers: Endgame is the most anticipated movie of 2019, even though there is also a new Star Wars movie on the wayl. For the first time, Marvel truly is beating the universe that George Lucas created at its own game.

This comes from a new poll conducted by Fandango, which breaks down the movies most wanted by audiences across America. And Avengers: Endgame is the clear winner on many fronts. But Marvel isn't stopping there. Coming in at the number two spot is Captain Marvel, the first of three new MCU adventures set to hit theaters in the coming year, a prequel that predates even Iron Man with its 1995 set storyline, which helps set up some of the events in Avengers: Endgame.

So it really shouldn't come as a surprise that Star Wars 9, which doesn't have an official title yet, slides in the rear at number 3. The Last Jedi is one of the most (if not THE most} divisive genre movies ever made. So some fans are weary of what J.J. Abrams is going to have to offer, and many don't believe that Disney nor Lucasfilm will be able to right this ship, though many of us still hold out hope. Fandango polled more than 3,500 moviegoers to come to their conclusion. Managing Editor Erik Davis had this to say about these findings, and why Endgame comes out on top.

"There's 10 years of investment built into this series. Fans are dying to see how it ends. They were definitely happy with the last 'Avengers,' but it was a bit of a hard pill to swallow, as entertaining as it was. ... Do they bring these characters back? This film is going to set the stage for whatever the next iteration of these Marvel movies is."

Davis also seems to know why Star Wars has lost some of its luster, falling further down on the list when it comes to true anticipation by frequent moviegoers. He has this to say.

"People are looking for a break. The Last Jedi and "Solo: A Star Wars Story" in the span of five months. But mostly, the excitement level is low only "because we haven't seen anything yet" from the movie. "The first time we see 30 seconds with a lightsaber battle, that changes."

This 2019 poll also looks at most anticipated horror movie, fan favorite actors and actresses and quite a few other surprising reveals about your fellow cinema enthusiasts. Everyone is still in love with Tom Hanks, who has two big movies coming in the New Year with his Mr. Rogers biopic and Toy Story 4.
