Summary

Based on a real family and the events in their life, The Sound of Music tells the story of Maria, who, after proving too high-spirited for the other nuns in her convent, is sent off to work as a governess for the unruly children in the Von Trapp family. Captain Von Trapp is a lonely widower and former navy man. When Maria grows attached to the family and they to her, Captain Von Trapp ultimately realizes that he is in love with Maria and thus begins a very happy chapter in the lives of this newly formed family... Until, with Hitler's ascension imminent, Von Trapp must decide whether to join the Nazi party or to gather up his family and leave their home forever.

Movie PictureI must confess. I have theatrophoboia. That is the fear of live theater. It steams from a few childhood episodes that scared me for life. First, there was the Winnie the Pooh incident. At the impressionable age of six, my mom drove me down to a shady little bookstore where a group of forty and fifty-year-old socially disabled men were putting on a live performance of The Hundred Acre Woods.
