Studly German soldier David gets a warm welcome, after a tour of NATO 'peace-making' duty in Afghanistan, from his girlfriend and house-mate Kirsten and his own (step-)family. But the bed-wetting he hides is just an early, minor symptom of a major trauma incurred on the Afghan base. Even a party step-dad throws for David's silver valor decoration, part of an imposed deal to keep the army's dirty laundry covered up, is cause to lash out angrily. David alternatively behaves most protective of doting kid step-brother Bennie and drags him into his scary sequence of nightmares, mood swings and guilt trips. Written by KGF Vissers

At an elite private boarding school, four students form a clique to sneak out of school after hours, to meet, drink and play. Trying to escape the golden cage, which their wealthy parents have stuck them in, they search for the extreme. Over time, their excessive games grow more and more violent, eventually turning against the weakest of their group: Leibnitz. As Dyrbusch (leader of the pack) and Bogatsch (the executive power) continue torturing Leibnitz, he voluntarily endures because he's unable to dispose of his tormentors, on one hand being afraid to lose their "friendship," and on the other hand, due to potential consequences which may arise from his parents. Konstantin, the opportunist, is the only one who sees through the immorality of their games, but he hesitates too long, not wishing to endanger the alleged common destiny that the boys in this school appear to have: their clique. They are swept deeper and deeper into the downward spiral of their own violence and peer pressure, until the unavoidable happens...

The cops don't have much to go on, until a hidden photograph of a young girl's grave turns up a lead. They discover that many years ago the victim was accused, though not convicted, of horrible crimes. Did the old man's past come back to haunt him? As Erlendur reopens this very cold case, he follows a trail of unusual forensic evidence, uncovering secrets that are much larger than the murder of one old man, with clues knit into the genetic bloodline of an entire country.
