Marvel reshoots are part and parcel of the process to create the ongoing, interconnected narrative that is demanded of the MCU, and it seems that Ms. Marvel is the latest series to restart filming to pick up some additional footage. Show director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy shared some new set photos on her Instagram stories of the Atlanta-based shoot, which appears to be using several cranes and screens, suggesting that these are quite significant action sequences being filmed. That doesn’t mean, however, that the reshoot is any reason for concern about either the series or possible delays to its release, as these reshoots seem to be factored into every Marvel project these days.

Ms. Marvel’s principal photography wrapped at the end of 2021; however, there was speculation at the beginning of the year that the series was going back in front of the cameras. Now that has been confirmed, but similar to the recent shoots for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, these are most likely covering some shots that either didn’t turn out quite right in the cut or additional scenes that are being used to enhance what has already been shot. However, there could be other reasons for the reshoots that are linked to fan comments about the series.

The teaser for the show had some fans questioning whether the character of Kamala Khan was being turned into a copy of Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, rather than her comic book iteration who can shape-shift and has size-alteration and elasticity abilities after being caught in a Terrigen bomb. While it doesn’t seem likely that there will be any drastic changes being made in these reshoots in terms of storyline, or probably even the character’s powers, the set-up suggests that they are some hefty scenes being filmed again.

Ms. Marvel Will Play a Major Role in the MCU’s Immediate Future as Part of The Marvels

Ms. Marvel will introduce Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, the first Muslim superhero of the MCU, and will debut on Disney+ towards the end of the year. As well as telling an origin story, Ms. Marvel will also provide a bridge to The Marvels, which is set to arrive in 2023 and will feature Khan along with Monica Rambeau, who was last seen in WandaVision played by Teyonah Parris, and Carol Danvers, once again played by Brie Larson. While both the series and the movie are currently short on plot details, it is clear that the series will set the scene for what is to come in Captain Marvel’s second solo movie.

The arrival of set photos last year gave a first look at Vellani in costume, which were criticized by some for not looking like her comic book iteration, but these qualms were dampened with footage released as part of Disney+ Day, that appeared to show a more detailed costume, suggesting that the character will, like Spider-Man, go from a homemade outfit to one more in line with a cosmic-powered superhero. With a lot to come from the MCU between now and the release of Ms. Marvel, there is still plenty of time for Obaid-Chinoy to get exactly the right shots she needs in the can and make the series another Marvel success for Disney+.
