According to The Hollywood Reporter, MTV is expanding its slate of documentary programs with greenlights given to three new unscripted series offering an unvarnished look at the lives of young people in settings not often seen in primetime. The programs were designed to offer viewers a glimpse of how teenagers and young adults live in areas far removed from urban centers. The programs also were conceived with a mandate to develop offshoot programming, recaps and update material and other complementary elements for the MTV Overdrive broadband channel, said Dave Sirulnick, MTV's executive vp multiplatform production, news and music. "That's pretty much the way we see developing projects for MTV going forward," said Sirulnick, who was recently tapped to head a newly configured team of MTV executives focused on developing shortform and other nontraditional programming for MTV's various digital media initiatives.
