Welcome to a new world of Gods and monsters! Universal Pictures, as promised, has released the first full-length trailer for their reboot of The Mummy. Let's just hope we get to see Tom Cruise running a bunch in this new world, as he's known to do. It seems likely because this trailer teases a seriously action-packed adventure that looks to be a far cry from the Brendan Fraser version.

Tom Cruise posted a teaser for this first trailer on his Twitter account earlier in the week, promising the full trailer would arrive on Sunday. He made good on his word and we now have our first real look at the new take on the classic monster tale. The trailer includes a good look at Kingsman and Star Trek Beyond star Sofia Boutella as the famed monster and even Russell Crowe as Dr. Jekyll. Here is the official synopsis for The Mummy.

"Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her, is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension. From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters."

Prior to this first trailer, we had little idea outside of the synopsis what to expect from this reboot of The Mummy. It was very clear that Universal had some bigger plans in mind, as they are trying to set up a cinematic universe centered on classic monsters, like The Mummy, and this movie will be kicking off those plans. Even in the brief trailer tease shared by Tom Cruise, there were references to a bigger world of monsters at play and even the movie's tagline makes it pretty clear this won't be a one-and-done kind of thing.

Universal is still piecing this monster universe together but they are seemingly going after top-notch talent at every turn. Outside of having Tom Cruise leading The Mummy, they have Dr. Jekyll who is being played by Russell Crowe, who is also appearing in this movie. Johnny Depp has also been cast to play the lead in the reboot of The Invisible Man. It is also rumored that Oscar winner Javier Bardem is being eyed for the new Frankenstein movie. There has also been persistent chatter surrounding Angelina Jolie being eyed for the Bride of Frankenstein. In addition, it was also recently revealed that Luke Evans version of Dracula from Dracula Untold may be coming back to reprise his role in these new connected monster movies.

The Mummy is being directed by Alex Kurtzman with a script from Jon Spaihts and Christopher McQuarrie. The cast includes Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Russell Crowe, Annabelle Wallis, Courtney B. Vance and Jake Johnson. The Mummy is set for release on June 9, 2017. Be sure to check out the first full-length trailer for the movie courtesy of Universal Pictures.
