Netflix has released a riveting trailer for the upcoming World War II thriller, Munich – The Edge of War. The film is based on the bestselling novel Munich by Robert Harris, which revolves around the 1938 Munich Agreement signed between Germany, Italy, and Great Britain. The agreement was reached to appease Adolf Hitler and subsequently avert an all-out war in Europe. But it came with a cost – the sacrifice of Czechoslovakia’s autonomy. However, Hitler not only annexed Czechoslovakia, but he also invaded Poland a year later, triggering World War II.

Munich – The Edge of War recounts the events leading to the Munich Agreement as well as a secret mission carried out by two diplomats to reveal Hitler’s true intentions to the world. Munich – The Edge of War features George MacKay (1917, Wolf) as British civil servant Hugh Legat; Jannis Niewöhner (Mute) as German diplomat Paul von Hartmann; and Jeremy Irons (Dead Ringers, The Lion King) as then British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain. Munich – The Edge of War is directed by Christian Schwochow (The Crown) from a screenplay by British playwright Ben Power. Check out the gripping trailer for Munich – The Edge of War below.

The trailer opens with Hugh Legat being assigned the task of retrieving a sensitive document from his friend, Paul von Hartmann. "You’ll be committing espionage on foreign soil," a man says. The document is proof that Hitler doesn’t plan to honor the Munich Agreement and intends to wage war on Europe. While the Prime Minister prepares to fly to Munich to negotiate peace, Legat comes to terms with his high-stakes mission. Hartmann, on the other hand, lays his life on the line to get those documents, even risking a confrontation with the Führer.
