Disney Junior is bringing back one of the most beloved children's series of all-time. It was announced today that a reboot of Muppet Babies will be coming to the network in 2018 and it will be done in CG animation. The series is said to be aimed at children aged 4 to 7, but no doubt there will be some nostalgic adults tuning in to relive a bit of their childhood.

The network made the announcement on their official Twitter account, which also included a first look photo at the upcoming Muppet Babies reboot. The picture shows off a young Fozzie Bear, Kermit and Miss Piggy in an updated version of the nursery from the original show. Based on the outfits and other elements of the picture, it looks like this new version of Muppet Babies will be sticking very true to the original.

This new Muppet Babies, Like the original from the '80s, will take place in the playroom and will follow the adventures of Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, Animal, and Miss Nanny, who we only ever saw from below the shoulders. Jim Henson's Muppet Babies ran for 8 seasons from 1984 to 1991 and accumulated a total of 107 episodes. This new take will feature two different 11-minute segments per episode which will focus on the gang using their imagination to go on adventures. The Muppets Studio VP Debbie McClellan had this to say about the new project.

"Bringing Muppet Babies to Disney Junior is a wonderful opportunity to reach a new generation of viewers and to creatively build on the innovative original series. We hope to engage and delight the nostalgic fans while also entertaining new kids, parents, and diverse audiences through heart and humor as only the Muppets can deliver."

The original Muppet Babies is a beloved show by those who remember it, but the show was not without a bit of controversy. Jeffrey Scott, a writer of many famous 80s cartoons including Muppet Babies, revealed that scenes in cartoons he worked on included references and were inspired by his belief in Scientology. Here is how Jeffrey Scott incorporated it into the original Muppet Babies series, according to an interview he once did.

"(L. Ron) Hubbard discovered that the number one barrier to study was the misunderstood word. He found that the moment a student went past a word he/she didn't understand the rest of the material became more or less 'blank'. So in a 'Muppet Goose' episode I wrote Piggy was reading Little Miss Muffet, and when she read 'sat on a tuffet,' her imagination went blank until she cleared up her misunderstood word."

It is a pretty safe bet that Disney Junior will be looking to avoid Scientology references in their new version of Muppet Babies, but you can never be too sure. There was no specific premiere date announced for the show, but expect it to land on the network sometime in 2018. Be sure to check out the first photo from the new series for yourself below.
