Last week, ABC issued a series order for a brand new TV series centering on The Muppets, while releasing the first photo of Kermit the Frog and Gonzo. During the network's official upfront presentation today, ABC released the first trailer, which shows The Muppets like we've never seen them before. Utilizing the documentary format from hit programs such as The Office, this new series will give fans a behind-the-scenes look at The Muppets' lives.

The Muppets return to primetime with a contemporary, documentary-style show. For the first time ever, a series will explore the Muppets' personal lives and relationships, both at home and at work, as well as romances, breakups, achievements, disappointments, wants and desires. This is a more adult Muppet show, for "kids" of all ages. Bill Prady ("The Big Bang Theory") and Bob Kushell ("Anger Management") are co-writers and executive producers. Randall Einhorn ("Wilfred"), Bill Barretta, Debbie McClellan and Kyle Laughlin are also executive producers. The Muppets is produced by ABC Studios and The Muppets Studio.

The trailer also showcases the on-and-off romance between Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy, who initially turns down the chance to be on this new show, since she is shooting a movie. We also see Fozzie's new human girlfriend, although her father (Jere Burns) doesn't seem to be a huge fan of his. ABC has not announced exactly when The Muppets will premiere, but the show will air Tuesday nights at 8 PM ET on ABC. Check out the first trailer below, and let us know what you think.
