Dave Bautista's My Spy has been pushed back to 2020. No official release date has been announced, but STX Entertainment will more than likely reveal the new date soon. Bautista is currently gearing up for the release of his new movie Stuber, which he stars in opposite Kumail Nanjiani. The action comedy officially opens tomorrow, July 12th and many people were anticipating to see My Spy next month. However, it looks like the studio has other plans for the project at the moment.

The My Spy release date change news comes from insiders within STX Entertainment, who wish to remain anonymous. The same sources say that the release date change has nothing to do with the studio's confidence in the comedy. STX reportedly has every intention of putting out My Spy, but just not right now. It could possibly be because of the release date of Stuber, which is also a comedy starring Dave Bautista, opening 7 weeks prior, or there could be other reasons behind-the-scenes at STX Entertainment. The studio has had a string of underperforming projects at the box office over the past year and there have been whispers of some big changes going on behind-the-scenes.

It was previously reported that STX Entertainment is allegedly looking to merge after a string of box office bombs. The studio's most recent project Poms only grossed $13.6 million, while Best of Enemies starring Taraji P. Henson made $10.2 million from a budget of $10 million. Making things worse, Ugly Dolls hit theaters in May and came with a star-studded budget of $95 million. With that being said, the animated family movie was only able to scare up $26.4 million worldwide, meaning it tanked tremendously.

Since STX Entertainment is pushing back My Spy, they might be using the comedy as leverage when looking for possible mergers. Dave Bautista's career is on the rise and the movie will probably end up doing pretty well at the box office. It could be the hit the studio needs since Playmobil: The Movie, which is also on the way from STX, doesn't look like it will have the worldwide appeal of the LEGO franchise. Stranger things have happened, but we'll just have to see how that all works out. The studio also has the police drama 21 Bridges on the way, which stars Black Panther lead Chadwick Boseman.

Whatever the case may be, it seems like My Spy will be released in 2020. Hopefully the studio will try and get it out towards the beginning of the year for those moviegoers who were looking forward to seeing it at the end of August. As of this writing, STX Entertainment has yet to officially comment on the matter and neither has Dave Bautista, who normally has no problem expressing his true thoughts publicly. The Wrap was the first to report on the new release date for Dave Bautista's My Spy.
