The twisted world of director M. Night Shyamalan will continue with Universal Pictures, with the studio announcing that a mysterious new project from the Glass and Signs filmmaker will land in theaters in 2024. Revealed in a report by Deadline, Shyamalan’s next thriller will hit the big screen on April 5, 2024, though currently, no further details have been revealed.

This latest project from divisive director M. Night Shyamalan will mark his sixth movie with Universal, with the likes of The Visit, Split, Glass and Old having each found great financial success for the studio — if not critical success...

The announcement of Shyamalan’s mysterious new movie means that the director has extended his initial two-movie deal with the studio, with the filmmaker having previously teased a third offering.

"I just had two movie ideas I felt very strongly about," Shyamalan explained back in 2019. "For me, there are ideas and they're in journals sometimes and they don't quite have the meat yet or whatever that thing is that makes it so I'm ready to commit two years of my life to making this-to writing and directing this-some of those ideas don't have that yet. They have to gestate a little bit. But there were two ideas where right away I was thinking about making them. And, interesting enough, there might be a third thing that came to me that might end up going in between these two. So there might be three."

While there are currently no other details regarding the project, we can safely assume that it will continue the smaller, more intimate nature of Old and the upcoming Knock at the Cabin. "I'm loving this approach from The Visit on where they're minimal, contained, I own them, we take big tonal risks and try to hit that note of absurd-but-grounded, that dark humor moment and deal with some complicated things and not necessarily take the audience where they're comfortable, both during or even at the end," Shyamalan said in 2019.
