The first trailer for Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase has been released by Ellen DeGeneres' A Very Good Production. Sophia Lillis stars as the titular character this time around from a story based on the 1930 book by Mildred Wirt Benson, who wrote it under the pseudonym Carolyn Keene. The book is from the second volume of Nancy Drew stories and Benson considered it to be her favorite of all the stories that she wrote.

IT star Sophia Lillis was announced as the star of Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase back in April of 2018. After the announcement, production began in June, which is also when IT 2 was filming. In the first trailer for the movie, Lillis seems like she was perfectly cast as the young detective. Drew is a smart high schooler with a penchant for keen observation and deduction, who stumbles upon the haunting of a local home. A bit of an outsider struggling to fit into her new surroundings, Nancy and her pals set out to solve the mystery, make new friends and establish their place in the community.

Sophia Lillis is the latest actress to bring this Nancy Drew story to the big screen. A version of Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase originally hit theaters in 1939 and starred Bonita Granville. However, the 1939 version basically only shared the title of the book since the movie altered the storyline quite a bit. It's unclear if the 2019 version will follow the source material closely or not. The source material also raises questions since there are two different versions of the story, the original in 1939 and then the second in 1959, which also alters the story of the original.

Nancy Drew was created by publisher Edward Stratemeyer to go along with his Hardy Boys book series. The character has been portrayed as either 16 or 18-years old over time, which falls in with Sophia Lillis' age. In addition to Lillis, Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase stars Zoe Renee, Mackenzie Graham, Laura Slade Wiggins, Sam Trammell, Linda Lavin, Andrea Anders, Jay DeVon Johnson, Andrew Matthew Welch, Jon Briddell, Josh Daugherty, Evan Castelloe, and Jesse C. Boyd.

Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase is directed by Katt Shea from a script by the screenwriting team of Nina Fiore and John Herrera. Ellen DeGeneres, Jeff Kleeman and Chip Diggins serve as producers while Wendy S. Williams is on board as executive producer. The movie hits theaters on March 15th, 2019 and should kick off another successful year for Sophia Lillis, who has IT 2 coming out in September. The young actress has received a lot of positive attention for her portrayal of Beverly Marsh, the only female member of the Losers' Club, and it looks like Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase will do the same.
