Prime Video and Blumhouse have unveiled the trailer for their upcoming psychological horror production, Nanny. Nanny, which is being described as a ‘psychological fable of horror’, stars Anna Diop as Aisha, who takes up a job as a nanny to Amy’s (Michelle Monaghan) child. The trailer establishes Aisha as an immigrant from Senegal who has left her son behind to eventually earn a pathway for him to join her in the States.

The film’s trailer smoothly sets up the beginning of Aisha’s new life, but soon things start taking peculiar turns. Aisha finds herself in mysteriously haunting circumstances and becomes troubled by the family’s ‘volatile home life. These unsettling events that take a toll on Aisha’s life further horrify her due to her constant longing to bring her son back to her. And the eerie background score, frightening settings, and stunning visuals make Nanny more promising, just like Blumhouse’s other horror hits. Will Aisha be able to work her way to bring her son home, or will she fall prey to this vicious incursion in her life?

Whether there is a demonic possession in the house or is it purely psychological horror, Nanny’s trailer cleverly hides the major plot details in its dark and creepy narrative.

Nanny is the directorial debut of Nikyata Jusu. Jusu is known for depicting the complexities of Black women characters in her works such as African Booty Scratcher, Flowers, and Suicide by Sunlight. Nanny will be her debut feature movie. Jusu had earlier said about the film:

Knowing my first feature, 'Nanny,' is now among a roster of provocative and iconic work at Amazon is rewarding. Coupled with Blumhouse’s recognizability in the world of genre, horror specifically, I’m excited to be in the warm embrace of a team at the intersection of bold content and indie filmmaking sensibilities. My hope is that this acquisition stands as a testament to their continued bravery in ushering in unique voices.
