On July 4th, this one event you won't want to miss!

On July 4, NBC will be lighting up the night with the Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular. There will be musical performances by Martina McBride, recent American Idol winner Jordin Sparks, as well as performances by 2nd and 3rd place Idol contestants Blake Lewis and Melinda Doolittle, and more! Hosting this telecast, in which nearly 35,000 brilliant shells explode over New York City set to a sweeping original medley performed by The New York Pops, are NBC correspondents Natalie Morales and (former NFL player) Tiki Barber.

Morales and Barber recently sat down to talk about hosting this exciting, annual event.

Since you two come from a sports reporting background are you going to be reporting this event in a play by play kind of way?

Natalie Morales: If Tiki will help me out and give me some play by play pointers, absolutely.

Tiki Barber: I think we'll do whatever comes naturally.

Natalie Morales: I think we're gonna have fun with it, absolutely.

Tiki Barber: The most important thing is that we have a good time. I think if we convey that than the viewers will have a good time. Obviously, with the backdrop of the spectacular fireworks things they have planned, it's not gonna be hard to have a good time.

Natalie, what was the 4th of July like for you growing up?

Natalie Morales: It's interesting because I did celebrate a lot of 4th of July's overseas, on bases, also stateside, Dover, Delaware. I always looked forward, at the base, they always put on the greatest shows, the greatest fireworks. Nothing of course that could rival the Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular, it was always a great show of patriotism. I think this year again, with troops overseas, it's an important reminder for us all. It's a time for unity. A time for us all to come together. My particular 4th of July memory was coming stateside in 1986, we went to Governor's Island and watched the Spectacular from there. That was really a sight to behold seeing it in person.

Tiki, do you think you're sons will play football?

Tiki Barber: Well, I hope they don't. They're obsessed with it right now. They have myself who they followed for three years and their uncle who is still playing. They still love the game.

Are there three American Idol finalists performing one song? How is this going to work?

Natalie Morales: Yes, we understand that the three are performing one song together.

Will they do any solos?

Tiki Barber: No.

Oh, that sounds bad. It sounds disappointing, no?

Natalie Morales: They all work perfectly together. They harmonize just right.

Tiki Barber: Well, it's an hour show, the most significant part of it is the fireworks. They're kind of an accouterment.

Natalie Morales: There's Josh Stone, Martina McBride some other big acts, too.

Are you having to learn a lot about fireworks?

Natalie Morales: I think I'm leaving up to the experts because, clearly, the Sosa Family, they've been doing this for 25 years now. I think we're in good hands with them.

Tiki Barber: I don't know, after the play by play suggestion I think we need to learn.

Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular happens Wednesday, July 4 at (9-10 p.m. EST) on NBC.
