According to our friends at Dark Horizons, the movie Nautica was originally set to star Heath Ledger, Ewan McGregor and be directed by Ted Demme. This thriller set on the high seas stalled when Demme passed away due to heart complications.

Now after being in limbo for many months, Aint it Cool News reports that Stephen Hopkins, who is also coming off the multi-award winning Life & Death of Peter Sellers is taking over directing duties with Heath Ledger retaining his role and Jake Gyllenhaal stepping in for McGregor.

The shoot it seem is going ahead, possibly in Australia. Location scouting is underway in Queensland, however a start date is as yet unknown.

Gyllenhaal and Ledger can be seen together in the upcoming film Brokeback Mountain. Adapted from a short story by The Shipping News writer E. Annie Proulx, the story centers on two men (Ledger and Gyllenhaal) who meet one summer as sheepherders in Wyoming and form a bond and love that spans 20 years. The film tracks that time period and their evolving relationship.
