NBC is moving forward with a reboot of its hit 1980s series Remington Steele, which starred Pierce Brosnan and Stephanie Zimbalist.

The pilot script was written by Jay Scherick and David Ronn (Zookeeper, The Smurfs), with Ruben Fleischer (Gangster Squad, Zombieland) attached to direct the first episode.

The original series centered on Pierce Brosnan's title character, a con man who was recruited by private investigator Laura Holt (Stephanie Zimbalist) to become the fictional figurehead at her detective agency. The show was seen as a front runner to establishing strong female leads on television, which paved the way for other 1980s shows such as Moonlighting. The series, which co-starred Doris Roberts, ran from 1982 to 1987 on NBC.

The reboot centers on Olivia Holt, the daughter of Remington and Olivia, who re-opens the Remington Steele Detective Agency, falling into the same comedic and romantic mishaps as her parents did in the original series. While there was always romantic tension between Remington and Laura, they did not become romantically involved until the series finale.

Jay Scherick, David Ronn and Ruben Fleischer are executive producing alongside Heather Petrigala.
