It seemed only a small amount of time before legitimate entities start examining digital delivery.

In a story from Home Media Retailing, starting today Nielsen Media Research will start to "measure nationally distributed video-on-demand (VOD) content. The service will be based on the same National People Meter sample used to provide television ratings."

According to the story companies using Nielsen's service "will receive household and demographic ratings for VOD content along with other detailed audience information. The service will allow comparisons between programs airing on traditional channels and the VOD performance of those same shows."

In order to get this started up "Nielsen has worked with clients to develop a watermark to better track programs watched on demand."
