Screen Gems has hired Nelson McCormick to direct a remake of the 1987 cult thriller Stepfather. According to Variety, Joe Cardone is writing an updated version of the original script.

The plot revolves around a teenage boy who discovers that his new stepfather also happens to be a serial killer. A modern spin will be put on the story, which sees the father murdering multiple neighborhood families.

Greg Mooradian and Mark Morgan of Maverick Films are producing Stepfather. The film does not have a set start date at this time.
