Everyone makes mistakes. Netflix, apparently, are experts at making loads of them! Easily one of the most popular streaming services in recent years, they have produced boatloads of original projects from documentaries and movies to entire TV series. Not only do they pump out content like a factory, but they also cover a variety of genres so that there is something for every subscriber. Whenever Netflix comes out with something new, people are going to watch it. In turn, when Netflix cancels said shows, there are people who are going to be upset.

Many of us know about TV cancellations. Well, Netflix takes that to a whole other level. And behold, the power of the internet is the space where fans of canceled shows band together. We see them putting together campaigns and starting petitions for Netflix to reconsider or for another streaming platform to finish what they started. The truth is: Netflix knows how to make a great show. As such, you may be asking yourself, “How could Netflix cancel a show if it’s popular?” We also would like to know the answer! However, until then, let’s take a deep dive into some of the shows that Netflix has canceled that definitely deserve another chance.

9 The Society

Oh, what we would give to have another season of The Society. Take a group of high school students and shove them into an environment void of all authority and what do you get? Freedom, but also danger, as the young students try to bring their community back. Initially, a second season for the show was in the works, but in 2020, fans received the devastating news, via Deadline, that the show would no longer continue. Much like the rest of the world, the entertainment industry kind of fell into a stand-still when the COVID-19 pandemic hit and this show happened to be one of its victims.

8 Julie and The Phantoms

Netflix

Julie and The Phantoms was one of the hardest cancellations for fans to swallow. This 2019 Netflix show, directed by Kenny Ortega, follows a young Julie Molina who awakens the ghosts of a band from the 90s, Sunset Curve. They soon discover that their music careers may not be over because, when they all perform together with Julie's help, the ghosts become visible. The show was initially marketed to children, but the growing fanbase consisted of a demographic much older. Around a year after the first season left everyone with an unrelenting cliffhanger, Netflix announced that the show was canceled and even with petitions and campaigns led by fans, the show has yet to receive a second season.

7 Pretty Smart

Following this little trend of being just one and done, Netflix canceled the sitcom Pretty Smart after just one season. The show follows Chelsea, played by Emily Osment, as she moves in with her sister and new roommates. However, despite leaving viewers with what can only be described as a cliffhanger, Netflix decided to leave us all hanging after just one season in 2021.

6 Sense8

Netflix

Sense8 has probably one of the (relatively) happier endings among shows on this list. The show follows eight strangers and the connection they all share with one another. All of them come from different parts of the world and when they come together, they try to find answers. The show was canceled after two seasons. The story doesn't end there, however. Fans rallied together, and their voices were heard by Netflix. The streaming service released a 2-hour long special finale to tie up the show. Even with that, fans, as passionate as they are shown to be, would gladly embrace more.

5 I Am Not Okay With This

IAmNotOkayWithThis (1)
Netflix

I Am Not Okay With This is a young adult Netflix Original series that is based on Charles Forsman's graphic novel. The show follows a high school student Sydney Novak, played by Sophia Lillis, as she navigates the hardships of her identity, high school, and home life. Although the show had promise and an absolutely outstanding cast, it met the same fate as many projects during the time like The Society. The show was canceled by Netflix in 2020 because of the pandemic.

4 Atypical

Atypical
Netflix

Atypical follows a young man on the autism spectrum who gets into his first relationship. The show, full of heartfelt moments and lovable characters, explored self-discovery, acceptance, and life in high school in ways that had fans glued to their screens. However, after four seasons, the show was canceled. It was agreed upon many that the show was approaching an end due to production constraints that the pandemic placed on the entertainment industry. However, although the show pretty much forced out a bittersweet ending, the ever-so present and passionate fan base could use more seasons Atypical.

3 Santa Clarita Diet

Santa Clarita Diet
Netflix

Of all the shows or movies that mix up horror and comedy, there is nothing quite like Netflix's Santa Clarita Diet. This show stars Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant as realtors and partners Sheila and Joel. Sheila, putting it plain and simple, begins to crave human flesh, and let's just say it is a difficult transition for not just her, but for the people around her. This cancellation after three seasons is especially painful, because what happens after the flesh-eating spider gets Joel?! We'll never know.

2 Easy

Easy (1)
Netflix

Easy is the kind of show that says a lot without a constantly evolving plot or characters. It is a comedy anthology series following different people in Chicago. The show explores important themes surrounding love, sex, relationships, modern technology, and making connection in a modern society. This show can't really run out of ideas, so why not continue the series since it was favorable by viewers? Even though the show was canceled after three seasons, people are still holding out hope for a revival.

1 One Day at a Time

One Day At A Time comedy show from the 2010s
Netflix

One Day at a Time was a revival of the 1975 sitcom of the same name. However, after four seasons, per TV Line, One Day at a Time was canceled by Netflix. The show followed a Cuban-American family as they navigate the life they have built with each other. The show explores a family dynamic across a few generations and, being a solid show, held through the pandemic. The show was canceled multiple times, and it still hurts to think about.
