Superhero fans were in for quite the surprise tonight during the first ever Marvel and Netflix Comic-Con panel, which, according to the schedule, was only set to feature the stars of Marvel's Luke Cage. Mike Colter, Alfre Woodard, Mahershala Ali, Theo Rossi, Simone Missick, Frank Whaley and showrunner and Executive Producer Cheo Hodari Coker were all scheduled to appear, but the Ballroom 20 guests were treated to a surprise appearance by Jon Bernthal (The Punisher), a special video message from Finn Jones along with the first trailer for Iron Fist and the surprise renewal of Daredevil Season 3. Fans were also shown the new trailer for Luke Cage, along with a sizzle reel that included scenes from Daredevil, Jessica Jones and even more new footage from Luke Cage

Of course, Luke Cage a.k.a. Power Man, will soon team up with Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist to form The Defenders in a new miniseries where all of these heroes will face their biggest threat yet. Sadly, this sizzle reel only shows footage from each of these heroes' individual shows, since production hasn't started on The Defenders quite yet, and Netflix hasn't revealed when exactly the show will debut. The streaming service did reveal The Defenders logo during tonight's panel, but it seems that's all we'll get for now, along with this sizzle reel from YouTube

After a sabotaged experiment leaves him with super strength and unbreakable skin, Luke Cage (Mike Colter) becomes a fugitive trying to rebuild his life in modern day Harlem, New York City. But he is soon pulled out of the shadows and must fight a battle for the heart of his city--forcing him to confront a past he had tried to bury. Luke Cage is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix. Mike Colter revealed during the red carpet premiere of Daredevil Season 2 that Luke Cage will debut September 30 on Netflix.

Rosario Dawson will reprise her role as Claire Temple, a.k.a. Night Nurse in Luke Cage, along with Mahershala Ali as Cottonmouth, Theo Rossi as Sonny, Alfre Woodard as Mariah Dillard, Simone Missick as Misty Knight and Sonia Braga as Claire Temple's mother. Back in May, we also learned about another new casting addition, Erik LaRay Harvey, who has been confirmed to play the villainous Diamondback. Photos from the set revealed a street fight between Diamondback and the Power Man himself, but we don't know much about how Diamondback is introduced.

Cheo Hodari Coker is executive producer and showrunner for Marvel's Luke Cage. The show is being produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios and Netflix. Marvel also confirmed that Daredevil was renewed for Season 3 during tonight's Comic-Con panel, along with debuting this sizzle reel. Stay tuned for more on Luke Cage, and the rest of the Marvel Netflix lineup, and take a look at this sizzle reel below.
