Netflix announced the production of a second black comedy from award-winning creator, writer and executive producer Liz Feldman. Feldman's second project with the streaming service, No Good Deed, was announced on the third anniversary of the Dead to Me show premiere. The series will follow the story of three families looking to purchase the same dream home, a 1920s-style villa. The sellers of the home, however, are aware that underneath the surface, the house is not as perfect as it seems.
The black comedy, which will feature 30-minute episodes, will be executive produced by Feldman, Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum and Brittney Segal for Gloria Sanchez Productions and Christie Smith. The five have previously worked together on Dead To Me. Silver Tree, whose director credits include episodes of Dead to Me, HBO's Flight Attendant, and Showtime's Shameless, has signed on to direct multiple episodes of the new series, including the pilot. No anticipated cast members have been announced at this time.
"No Good Deed was inspired by my many late nights during the early pandemic maniacally searching Zillow listings for a way out of my house," Feldman said in a statement released by Netflix about her source of inspiration for the upcoming series. "I'm endlessly grateful to Netflix for being such a supportive creative home and for continuing to allow me to turn my crippling anxiety into entertainment."
Feldman has a multi-year deal with Netflix.
Dead to Me's Final Season Will Air this Fall
The third and final season of the critically acclaimed Dead to Me, starring Christina Applegate, Linda Cardellini, and James Marsden, will premiere on the streaming service this fall.
Feldman's dark comedy centers around Jen Harding (Applegate) and Judy Hale (Cardellini), two unlikely friends who meet in the grimmest of places: at a grief support group after the death of Jen's husband. The two radically different characters form a special bond, but Judy's life-changing secret and other twists throughout the series test their friendship.
After season two ended in 2020 with a cliffhanger, viewers were eager for season three's start, but due to Covid-19 pandemic safety protocols and Applegate's multiple sclerosis diagnosis, production was delayed. Season two of the series, which premiered May 8, 2020, received various accolades, including four Emmy Award nominations and three SAG Award nominations.
