Netflix has announced second seasons for several of their unscripted original series. Dope, Drug Lords, Nailed It!, Queer Eye and The Toys That Made Us are all getting a season 2, as the streaming service continues to pump millions and millions of dollars into its original content library. Rather than license content from other creators, Netflix is increasingly proving that they can satisfy their subscribers with new, original content. Or, in the case of Queer Eye, by bringing back a once beloved show for a new generation. Bela Bajaria, Vice President of Content for Netflix, had this to say about the slate of second season renewals.

"These series are indicative of what we're trying to accomplish for Netflix unscripted: working with world-class producers to create the best unscripted shows on television. These series elevate the genre with innovative takes on familiar formats. They deliver immersive and nuanced stories. They elicit so many emotions from viewers, from tears of laughter to tears of joy, and that's just Queer Eye."

When Netflix first started gaining popularity as a streaming service, as opposed to a DVD rental service, their content was purely licensed. In recent years, their focus has shifted entirely and in 2018 alone, they're set to spend $8 billion on creating original shows and movies. While they spend millions on movies like Bright and The Cloverfield Paradox, unscripted shows like these cost far less to produce and, given the fact that they've all been renewed, they bring in a healthy amount of eyeballs. That makes them a cost-effective way to help keep their subscribers pleased and to bring new ones on board.

DOPE season 2 will be the first of this handful of shows to premiere on April 20. This particular docu-series is filmed from the perspective of dealers, users and the police and is a vivid look at the war on drugs. Keeping with the drug theme, Drug Lords tells the stories of history's most notorious kingpins, their terrifying enforcers, and the men and women who've sworn to bring them down. No premiere date has been set for Drug Lords season 2.

Nailed It! season 2 also doesn't have a premiere date, but Netflix's baking show is coming back. The series, hosted by Nicole Byer and Jacques Torres, has home bakers with a terrible track record take a stab at re-creating edible masterpieces for a $10,000 prize. The Toys That Made Us, which also doesn't have a premiere date for its second season, takes a look at the minds behind history's most-iconic toy franchises who discuss the history and of their billion dollar creations. The show's first season took a look at Barbie and G.I. Joe, among others.

Last, but certainly not least, is Queer Eye. What started as Queer Eye for the Straight Guy on Bravo in 2003 has been revived on Netflix, with great success. While the streaming service famously doesn't share ratings numbers, it's clear that the series has been a huge hit for them and it's no surprise that Queer Eye season 2 is coming our way. Netflix's take sees the new "Fab Five" forge relationships with men and women from a wide array of backgrounds and beliefs often contrary to their own, touching on everything from LGBTQ rights and social commentary to how to make the best farm-to-table guacamole and more. The Fab Five, Antoni Porowski (Food & Wine), Bobby Berk (Interior Design), Karamo Brown (Culture), Jonathan Van Ness (Grooming) and Tan France (Fashion), are all returning for season 2, which doesn't have a premiere date yet.
