The hit Netflix teen-drama-slash-romantic-comedy, Heartstopper, has now officially been renewed for not one, but two more seasons on the streaming platform. Netflix took to social media to announce the news, revealing that, unlike the fate of oh so many series on the service, Heartstopper will not face a sudden and unexpected cancellation. Instead, it will return for much, much more.

“To those who have fallen in love with Nick & Charlie, cried watching Alice Oseman's magical story brought to life, or felt represented for the first time on-screen,” Netflix said in a short statement on social media, “I am elated to announce...Heartstopper has been renewed for TWO MORE SEASONS!”

Based on the webcomic and graphic novel of the same name by Alice Oseman, Heartstopper centers on very different teens, shy and gentle Charles "Charlie" Spring (Joe Locke) and popular rugby player Nicholas "Nick" Nelson (Kit Connor), who slowly discover that their unlikely friendship might be something more. And all while they navigate the trials and tribulations of school, growing up, and young love. The series also explores the lives of Charlie and Nick's friends, including Tao (William Gao), Elle (Yasmin Finney), Tara (Corinna Brown), Darcy (Kizzy Edgell) and Isaac (Tobie Donovan).

It has also been confirmed that Alice Oseman will return as writer and creator for both Season 2 and 3 of Heartstopper.

Heartstopper landed on Netflix towards the end of last month, April 22, to be more precise, and has since been met with critical acclaim. Praised for its well-balanced tone of comedy and drama, as well as its representation of the LGBT community, Heartstopper quickly rose up the Netflix ranks, becoming one of top 10 English series on Netflix in just the first couple of days. The series has garnered a rare 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with audiences awarding Heartstopper an equally impressive, and near-perfect 98%.

No doubt fully aware of the campaign that would have been launched had Heartstopper suffered the same fate as so many beloved Netflix shows before it, fans of the teen dramedy can now rest easy knowing that there will be much more from Nick and Charlie for the foreseeable future.

The release of the Heartstopper adaptation has also led to a growing popularity of the source material, with volume one of the graphic novel now sitting at the top spot on the U.S. YA fiction list and being featuring on the New York Times bestseller chart. Truly, Heartstopper has become quite the sensation.

So what can audiences expect from Heartstopper Season 2? Well, if star Joe Locke gets his way, American Pie and Legally Blonde star Jennifer Coolidge would be added to the roster. "I always say, I want Jennifer Coolidge to be my cool grandma. My American grandma. That would be quite cool,” the actor suggested recently. "Kit [Connor] got Olivia Colman, I want Jennifer Coolidge," he added.

The first series of Heartstopper is available on Netflix now.
