Netflix dropped something major today! The long-awaited Bee and Puppycat series just dropped the first teaser on the Netflix! Fans have been quick to re-upload the trailer to their Twitter accounts, and they couldn’t be happier about the news!

Bee and Puppycat is the brainchild of Natasha Allegri, who is best known for coming up with the gender swapped Fionna and Cake from Adventure Time! The show follows the misadventures of Bee, a young woman struggling to keep a job. One day, a strange creature (A dog? Maybe a cat?) falls through a portal and onto her! The creature is Puppycat, and he has the power to access Temp Bot, a super computer that hands out temporary jobs for the duo to complete.

Bee and Puppycat began life as a pilot short that Allegri created for Frederator Studio’s Youtube channel, Cartoon Hangover. The two-part pilot, which can be watched below, was so popular that it spurred Frederator to set up a Kickstarter account for a full series! The Kickstarter ended up earning $872,133 of its $600,000 goal, making it the 10th most funded project on the site to date!

Bee and Puppycat’s release started out strong on Youtube. But then midway through the season, things started to get strange. Rather than being uploaded on Youtube, the second half of the season was instead uploaded to a then-new streaming service titled VRV. This was met negatively from fans due to VRV being both a subscription service and only available in the United States. In 2018, the rest of the series was uploaded to Cartoon Hangover’s Youtube channel for everyone to enjoy. There’s even a “Full Series” version uploaded, which can be viewed below, where viewers can binge the entire ten episodes to their heart’s content.

Following the first season, Frederator announced that more episodes of Bee and Puppycat were being written. In 2017, a teaser for Bee and Puppycat: Lazy in Space appeared on Youtube, with promises of a 2019 release. But the season faced delay after delay. In 2020, the season was leaked onto producer Fred Seibert’s Vimeo account before being taken down shortly after. It was long enough, however, for all the episodes to get ripped and distributed online. Shortly after, Seibert announced he would be stepping down from his position as CEO from Frederator, but would still remain as producer on several projects including Bee and Puppycat. In 2020, Netflix announced that they had picked up the rights to distribute the second season.

While the season has been completed and has just been waiting for a home, judging from the trailer there has been more going on than we could have guessed! Not only does the trailer feature various clips and shots from season two, but we also see a ton of remade shots and scenes from the pilot and first season! Does this mean we’re getting new versions of the second season? Or are we getting a complete reboot of the series with recycled footage from the leaked episodes? Those questions are sure to be answered on September 6th when Bee and Puppcat touch down on Netflix!
