On Tuesday, Netflix began releasing mysterious coordinates for a global event to promote the release of Stranger Things season 4. The post reads, "Something big is coming. Find your city, and that's where we'll be." Well, now we finally know what those coordinates mean. Thanks to an exclusive report from IGN, we know that the coordinates are locations for rifts that will open to the Upside Down. Rifts are a portal to the Upside Down, once used by Eleven during an experiment in which she made contact with an inter-dimensional creature, the Demogorgon.

For the sake of the Netflix promotion, the "rifts" we will be seeing are constructed using custom light technology which will project onto several iconic landmarks. The event will take place over 15 iconic locations in 14 countries starting on May 26th. Some sites that will be included are the Empire State Building in New York City, The Gateway of India in Mumbai, and the Xbox Plaza in Los Angeles. For a complete list of coordinates, you can view the thread here. The experience at the Empire State Building will last for 15 minutes, with the mysterious clock counting down until 8:45 pm ET. Following the countdown, a rift to the Upside Down will appear, showing previous moments from the series and storylines from season 4 that we have yet to see.
