Netflix has adapted numerous best-selling novels this year, and it appears that this trend will continue in 2023. The year 2022 has been a feast for novel adaptations, beginning with the spy thriller The Gray Man and continuing with flicks like Blonde, Persuasion, The Killer, and Spaceman. While all of these films delighted audiences with varied notions, the crime mystery drama The Snow Girl is the one to keep an eye on.

The Snow Girl, adapted from Javier Castilo's bestselling novel and published by Penguin Random House Grupo Editorial, is one of the most anticipated Netflix films of 2023. The original book, "La Chica de Nieve (The Snow Girl)," is one of the most popular novels in Spain, having sold over a million copies. With the novel's success reaching new heights on a daily basis, it's no surprise that it's receiving an adaptation—albeit a Netflix one.

The Snow Girl, like many of Javier Castilo's stories, features an unpredictable plot and fits within the suspense genre. With that in mind, here's everything we know about Netflix's The Snow Girl, one of the anticipated adaptations of a Spanish novel for 2023.

The Snow Girl: The Plot

Amaya Martin, a young girl from a loving family, attends the magical event of the year, the Three Wise Men parade, which is expected to bring the family memories for years to come. The family, on the other hand, never imagined enduring such a nightmare day after Amaya vanished in the crowd during the celebration. Miren, as a trainee journalist, begins an investigation into Amaya's disappearance in parallel with inspector Millan.

As time passes, many people seem to have lost hope and believe the girl has passed in secret. Miren, however, is determined to find the girl using the clues left by Amaya and the assistance of her journalist colleague Eduardo in the hopes of reuniting the family. As a result, the journalist may recall experiences from her past that she wishes she hadn't remembered.

The premise is identical to that of the famous Japanese anime The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, which is also based on a popular novel. While we elaborated on the plot based on the teaser and other sources, here is the official novel synopsis:

"The most famous Thanksgiving Day Parade on the planet. A three-year-old girl goes missing. Where is Kiera Templeton? New York, 1998, Thanksgiving Day Parade. Kiera Templeton, only three years old, disappears into the crowd. After a frantic search throughout the city, someone finds a few strands of hair along with the clothes the little one was wearing that day. In 2003, the day that would have been Kiera's eighth birthday, her parents, Aaron and Grace Templeton, receive a strange package with something unexpected: a VHS videotape with a one-minute recording of Kiera, playing in a room. Miren Triggs, a journalism student at Columbia University, is attracted to the case and begins a parallel investigation."
