It changed the video rental business so it should come as no surprise that Netflix has some big plans for offering digital downloads.

In a story from Variety, it seems the company "is planning to introduce a proprietary set-top box with an Internet connection that can download movies overnight."

According to Netflix VP of original programming Eric Besner, Netflix users will still pay a monthly fee and add movies to their rental queue online, but they will then have their titles delivered digitally instead of through the mail. The movies would be "shipped" overnight and available for viewing via the set-top box the next day.

He also said that this new service could launch as soon as "this year." According to Besner, this "is just one of the Internet plans Netflix is working on."
