Fans have been waiting to see what would happen to Marvel's Netflix programs once Disney purchased Marvel and created the MCU. It seems the wait is over, as Daredevil, The Punisher and Jessica Jones are heading over to Disney+Star. For Canadian fans, this is excellent news. As of March 1st, those programs will drop from Netflix.

The news comes after the announcement that these shows will be exiting Netflix at the end of the month. The transition of Marvel properties from Netflix to Disney+ Star has been a long time coming. Netflix canceled its Marvel projects in 2019, shortly before the release of Disney+, which serves as a direct competitor to the streaming service.

With Marvel developing a deep story over the last ten years through multiple characters crossing over into movies and original programming, it opens up the doors for these characters to make their MCU debut. These Marvel characters, in particular, deal with some not-so-family-friendly content.

However, moves have been made to include these characters in the cinematic universe, especially considering Matt Murdock's cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Wilson Fisk's inclusion in Hawkeye. These moves most likely mean that these characters then are expected to be incorporated into the ever-growing canon of Disney's MCU.

These shows were part of Marvel Television, which was separate from Marvel Studios, so at the time, it was a good idea to have them on Netflix. However, as plans for Disney+ began to come to light, the question of what would happen to this content started to swirl in many fans' heads. The contract between Disney and Netflix was always going to expire, leaving these shows to be left flying around looking for a new platform. It was only a matter of time before this day arrived, and now here we are.

The U.S. could see Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on Disney+ as that show fits more of their current rating system. However, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders will more than likely head to Hulu as well. Of course, this is all just speculation, and as of now, no official announcement has been made as to where will be within the United States.

One thing is clear. Disney knows the value of these properties and the demand for the characters in future projects. It would seem that getting them on another platform quickly keeps the characters fresh and more of an opportunity to further their storylines. In the meantime, Canadian viewers will be able to catch the Netflix Marvel series on Disney+ Star beginning on March 16th.
