We may not have seen the last of Sidney Prescott. After returning to the popular horror franchise in the new Scream film in January, Neve Campbell has confirmed that she has been approached to appear in the next installment of the franchise, which almost everyone is now referring to as Scream 6. She's open to returning for another movie, but Campbell is holding off until the screenplay is complete before she decides if she's getting on board. As of now, the sequel's script is still being written.

“They have approached me," Campbell explained at Mad Monster Party, per Halloween Daily News. "There’s no script yet. There is a draft coming in soon is what I was told. Actually, I was supposed to call a producer yesterday, because he wanted to talk to me about what’s going on. You know, we’ll see. I’ll read the script and see how I feel.”

That's not a definite "yes," but it's still a pretty optimistic answer. It's a similar approach Campbell took when she was initially approached to appear in the fifth Scream. She was reluctant to do another film after the passing of Wes Craven, who'd directed all four prior installments of the series. Campbell was swayed to come on board when the directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett convinced her that they were big fans of the franchise and wanted to do Craven proud with the new movie.

Another legacy character could return in Scream 6. Courteney Cox told ComicBook.com she is similarly open to coming back as Gale in the next film. In fact, she is even more eager to get involved than Campbell to get involved if her clear enthusiasm gives us something to go on.

"Of course," Cox said when asked about the possibility of another return. "What a fun experience to have such a longstanding series of movies and this one just feels completely invigorated in a new way. And it's a relaunch, not a fifth episode, whatever you call it ... It's a relaunch and the directors are incredible and I think Wes would be looking down and saying, 'I'm so happy it's Matt and Tyler.'"

Earlier this month, it was officially confirmed that Scream 6 is in the works. Paramount and Spyglass released a joint statement revealing that the same creative team will be coming back to develop Scream 6. No cast members have been announced at this time, though we know of two legacy cast members, as noted above, who might come back.

“We are tremendously grateful to the fans around the world who enthusiastically received our film. We can’t wait for audiences to see what Radio Silence, writers Jamie & Guy and Project X have in store for our Woodsboro family," the statement read.

The response to the new Scream film has been largely positive, so for the fans who enjoyed the new film, it's good news to know that the story will continue. For those waiting on the movie's streaming release, it's set to hit Paramount+ in March after its theatrical premiere in January.
