While we wait for any concrete developments on the long-awaited Cheech & /person/tommy-chong/Chong sequel Up in Smoke 2, Tommy Chong reveals that Broken Lizard director Jay Chandrasekhar (Super Troopers, The Babymakers) is currently writing a new movie for the iconic comedy duo.

During an interview with Celeb Stoner, Tommy Chong explained that the story will follow Cheech & /person/tommy-chong/Chong as the head towards a festival called Burning Joint.

"We've had some preliminary meetings. It looks really good. It looks really funny. It's about us going to a festival called the Burning Joint. All sorts of shenanigans happen. It's going to be a lot of fun."

Jay Chandrasekhar was introduced to Cheech & /person/tommy-chong/Chong through Cheech Marin's manager, with Tommy Chong confirming that they may start production this summer.

"They came at us with a rough idea and now they're fleshing it out and making it into a budgetable script. We could start shooting this summer."

The last live-action Cheech & /person/tommy-chong/Chong movie was 1983's Still Smokin, although they were featured in the animated adventure Cheech & Chong's Animated Movie. Tommy Chong says they had no involvement in the animated project, other than signing off on it.

"It was not done with our involvement. They animated the old records. I thought for what they had it was great. We didn't have to write anything. All Cheech and I had to do was look at it and go yea or no. I liked it."

Jay Chandrasekhar directed the Broken Lizard films Super Troopers, Club Dread and Beerfest, along with The Dukes of Hazzard and The Babymakers. He is also attached to direct Yogi Bear 2 and the long-awaited Super Troopers 2.
