Looks like there’s still a little hope for Ben Affleck to remain Batman in the DC Extended Universe even after his said final appearance as the character in Andy Muschietti’s The Flash. Though it’s not concrete or substantial confirmation of his return, he surely isn’t getting erased altogether as well. Earlier, there were speculations, that through the multiversal intersection, The Flash will rewrite the DCEU and probably erase Snyder’s first three films from the franchise (which Flash actor Ezra Miller assured fans that will not happen), thus officially deviating from the largely distinct plans the director had for the franchise. However, in a recent Twitter Q&A with industry insider KC Walsh (via The Direct), it is revealed that Affleck’s version of Batman, and to its extension, Snyder’s films, are not being erased entirely from the timeline. Walsh revealed that the film will actually set up a plot related to the Crisis storyline from the comics, and Ben Affleck’s Batman will play a crucial role in it.

His response to the Twitter post clarified that Snyderverse as it’s called, won’t be restored entirely, and instead, will set up a Crisis-like event, that will probably bring more than a singular timeline in co-existence in the multiverse, thus, not really erasing Ben’s Batman and other Snyderverse characters.

He further confirmed that the crisis event would definitely feature Batman, which won’t be Michael Keaton’s version but Ben Affleck’s.

Walsh also confirmed there will be subtle hints to Zack Snyder’s Justice League, through a conversation between Iris and Barry; however, no crucial elements such as Steppenwolf’s invasion, Knightmare, etc. will be mentioned. This means, there won't be a direct acknowledgment of Snyder Cut's events being canon to the official DCEU timeline.

Though Walsh says that his sources are biased; however, if the information is accurate, it will mean that the film will leave a segment for Snyder’s films to remain in the multiverse, allowing the studio to pick that storyline up if it fits so in the future. But, given how DCEU plans to move further and Ben Affleck’s explicit and outspoken remarks on his desire to retire from the role, it doesn’t seem likely he’ll don the cape again.

While Robert Pattinson is being praised for his latest iteration of DC’s caped crusader he played in The Batman, there is a large section of fans who are still rooting for Ben Affleck’s version of Batman, a part he played in the DC Extended Universe, starting with Zack Snyder’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Affleck’s performance in the film was mildly received after his casting alone faced backlashes. However, over the years, especially after the public reveal of Snyder’s plans for DCEU along with that for Ben Affleck’s solo Batman film, as well as the release of Snyder Cut, there are fan campaigns demanding the studio greenlight his solo Batman film.

However, the studio’s interference in the franchise plans, of which Affleck was supposed to be the anchor, has caused the actor to opt for a departure from the role. Furthermore, his personal life issues also hampered his preparation and enthusiasm for the role. Affleck has said that he has loved the part and has wised for not leaving it in an abrupt scenario; while also revealing that The Flash production was his best one out of his previous works as Batman.

Ben Affleck may not be interested in taking up the mantle of Gotham’s vigilante, but fans are regularly rooting for the studio to revive his solo Batman movie, which he was also co-writing and directing, and see him take on Deathstroke in a dark and gritty story he had always teased.
