New Line Cinema has bought the rights to the comedy, Be Kind Rewind.

The film stars Jack Black as a junkyard worker who attempts to sabotage a power plant that he believes is melting his brain, says The Hollywood Reporter. When his plan goes awry, the magnetic field that he creates accidentally erases all of the videotapes in a local video store where his best friend, Mike, works.

Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) is writing and will direct the film. Be Kind Rewind is scheduled to being production in September of this year; a 2007 release date has been set.
