Has The New Mutants been delayed yet again? This is starting to become one of the most troubled big-budget studio movies in recent memory. For those who may not be familiar, this is a horror-driven X-Men spin-off that the studio has been working on for years now, which was originally supposed to be released in April 2018. But it's been a parade of delays and alleged behind the scenes drama ever since and, apparently, that hasn't slowed down any, if this latest set of rumors floating around online have any truth to them.

As always with this sort of thing, we must caution that this is just a rumor for the time being as it isn't coming from someone directly related to the project or the studio. That said, Scott Bechtel, host of Merc With a Podcast, took to Twitter to update his followers with some things he's heard from unnamed sources in regards to The New Mutants. Apparently, Fox and director Josh Boone, who previously helmed The Fault in Our Stars, aren't getting along and they have no idea what to do with the movie or how to finish it. Here's what he had to say about it.

"Just heard a whisper through the grapevine. #newmutants will be delayed again. Fox & Boone are really struggling coming to terms on a comprehensible and finish product. They're looking to release it in early November. But... Fox is still toying with a Hulu release in October for #newmutants. They're trying to decide which method would have a more returnable value for an otherwise dead on arrival film."

The first cut of the movie that was originally supposed to arrive in theaters early last yearwas not something that the studio was happy with. Major reshoots were ordered and there were even reports that the character Warlock was going to be added within those reshoots, which are said to be significant. In the comments sections on Twitter, Scott Bechtel also noted that getting the cast back together, in terms of scheduling, has been very problematic.

"The biggest problem has been getting the cast back for the extensive amount of reshoots. I do know the biggest hold back as well was from the Anya Taylor-Joy camp. Her and her people were not fond of the time they would be putting into this again"

Anya Taylor-Joy has been quite busy, most recently starring in Glass, which debuted over the weekend. The cast also includes Maisie Williams, who has been busy with Game of Thrones, as well as Charlie Heaton, Alice Braga and Henry Zaga. Reshoots or no reshoots, at this point, it's hard to imagine this is going to be a movie that anyone involved is completely happy with.

At this point, dumping it on Hulu may not be a terrible idea. Marketing a movie such as this is very expensive and it is starting to sound like cut your losses type of project. Especially considering that the Disney merger with Fox is set to close in the coming months and, ultimately, by the time The New Mutants is released, it will be Disney in control. Sadly, this could be the last X-Men movie of the Fox era and, by all accounts, it could be a dumpster fire. For what it's worth, the movie is currently set to arrive on August 2.
