Deadpool did a sly job of helping set up the X-Men spinoff New Mutants. It introduced Negasonic Teenage Warhead as part of the team, and gave us a look at their uniforms without ever mentioning the Marvel outfit by name. While we don't know when The New Mutants movie is coming, it is definitely in the works at 20th Century Fox. Over the weekend, co-writer and director Josh Boone showed off the cover page to the script. And he had this to say.

"Cover of a certain script @knatelee and I turned in last night to @simondavidkinberg #newmutants second draft."

As you can see in the Instagram post from Josh Boone, Knate Lee co-wrote the script alongside the director. No story details have been revealed, but the movie has been called a YA version of X-Men with a much younger cast. While it has never been confirmed, it is expected that Negasonic Teenage Warhead will return in the movie, with Brianna Hildebrand reprising her role from Deadpool.

While 20th Century Fox has not announced anything official on the movie in the way of casting, it was widely reported last month that Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams had joined the project. She is said to be playing Rahne Sinclair, the New Mutant otherwise known as Wolfsbane. A shape-shifter, the character served as one of the more emotional key elements in the 80s version of the Marvel Comic. She is a Scottish werewolf who joins Xavier's school for the gifted.

Anya Taylor-Joy is also said to have come aboard The New Mutants. She made waves in this year's instant horror classic The Witch. She apparently made quite an impression on producers Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler-Donner. She is rumored to be playing Illya Rasputin, the New Mutant known as Magik. She is the younger sister of Russian X-Man Colossus, who played a big role in Deadpool. A third casting addition is said to be Alexandra Shipp, who will be reprising her role as Storm from this June's X-Men: Apocalypse. It has also been rumored that Sophie Turner's Jean Grey, Tye Sheridan's Cyclops and Kodi Smit-McPhee's Nightcrawler may appear in some capacity. It is believed that Cannonball, Sunspot, and Mirage are all currently being cast. Adan Canto played Sunspot in X-Men: Days of Future Past, but this will be a younger version of the character. Cannonball and MIrage have never appeared in a live action movie.

If this is true, it means The New Mutants will deliver the first team as introduced in the original comic books, created in 1982 by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod. James McAvoy is expected to return as Professor X, and is said to have quite a substantial role in the story. The New Mutants doesn't currently have a release date, but it's expected to arrive in 2018. 20th Century Fox did announce an untitled Marvel movie for October, 2017. But we don't think this is it.
