According to Variety it seems that New Regency and 20th Century Fox are partnering up to finally bring Father Knows Best to the big screen.

Writing the screenplay will be Chad and Dara Creasey. Gary Foster will handle producing duties.

The new film will be a contemporary look at a father whose current practices make his dad unhappy.

The original series starred Robert Young. Father Knows Best started on NBC radio in 1949. In 1954 it came to TV and ran until 1960.

Back in 1995 Universal tried to make the movie from a screenplay by Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana (Brokeback Mountain). This didn't happen and Paramount and Nickelodeon then tried to redo the project in 2003. In that incarnation, Tim Allen was going to play the dad.
