The Batman arrives in cinemas in two months’ time, and another new image from the highly anticipated movie appeared online to give the best look yet at Robert Pattinson’s new look Batsuit. With so much footage and still being released well ahead of the film’s release, it sometimes seems like there will be nothing left to be revealed by the time it hits cinemas in March. Of course, that is not exactly true, and there is still much that we don’t know about the plot of The Batman, such as the Riddler’s true plan, whether the Joker will or won’t be making a moment, and what the rumored “jaw-on-the-floor” moment is towards the end of the movie.

The latest image from The Batman shows the Gotham City crime-fighter and comes courtesy of Rolling Stone Magazine’s 2022 movie preview. The image was shared on Rolling Stone’s Instagram and features a full head and chest shot of Pattinson in the rain under a reddish orange glow of a streetlight. Although we have seen passing shots of the suit in the trailers, or blurry stills captured from various clips released during events like October’s DC FanDome, this is one of the first clear shots of the suit and its finer details. Here we get to see the various armored plates, the bat insignia on the chest, as well as the raised collar protecting Bruce Wayne’s neck as he battles the bad guys of Gotham.

It has been a long journey for the latest iteration of the Dark Knight, with production on the movie beginning back in February 2020, and it was around that time that fans were given their first look at the new Batsuit and they took little time to dissect the look. This latest image comes almost two years later when much of the initial doubt about Pattinson’s casting in the role has been well and truly countered by some fantastic-looking footage and heaps of praise from those who saw early previews of the movie.

The Batman Will Take The Dark Knight Out Of The DCEU.

The Batman 2022
Warner Bros. Pictures

The Batman in its original form was once all set to give Ben Affleck’s Batman his own solo movie after his appearances in Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. That changed when the 2016 release of Justice League effectively derailed the DCEU and things began moving in different directions. Thanks to the subsequent success of Aquaman and revised slate of DC movies, the DCEU remained intact, but it was already too late for Affleck’s Batman who had decided that his time in the Batsuit was up – well except for what is becoming more and more like a short and final stint in The Flash movie at the end of the year.

Instead, The Batman was reworked into a new movie that currently has no direct ties with the DCEU and allows the film to do its own thing, with director Matt Reeves showing that he is more than happy to be creating his own version of the character. It is one the earliest periods of Batman’s career that has been put on the big screen, with the hero having only been moonlighting as Gotham’s watchman for a year when the film takes place. This is a raw and brutal Batman that has much more in common with Chris Nolan’s grounded Dark Knight trilogy that will put to bed once and for all the colorful escapades of George Clooney in Batman & Robin.

The Batman debuts in cinemas on March 4th, 2022.
