According to Variety, Universal has upped the stakes on "The Break-Up," moving the laffer starring Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn to a summer date.

Originally slated for February 17, "The Break-Up" is now skedded for a June 2 bow, which will put it up against one of Paramount's big summer bets, the Jack Black wrestling comedy Nacho Libre.

In other dating developments, New Line's planted the flag more than two years out for The Golden Compass, announcing a December 7, 2007, release date for the first installment of the Philip Pullman fantasy trilogy "His Dark Materials."

For New Line, "Compass" represents the start of its most ambitious undertaking since "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. In August, the studio tapped Brit helmer Anand Tucker (Shopgirl) to direct.

New Line is moving crime thriller Running Scared back from the first weekend in January to Feb. 24. Directed by Wayne Kramer, pic stars Paul Walker as a low-level mobster.

The mini-major also set March 24 as the date for launching dance drama Take the Lead, starring Antonio Banderas and Alfre Woodard.
