The team behind Captain Phillips is getting back together for a new project. Director Paul Greengrass and Oscar-winner Tom Hanks are reteaming for News of the World, a Civil War-era drama that is in the works at Fox 2000, a specialty division of 20th Century Fox. There is no word currently on how soon the project could get underway, but with seemingly very little in the way on either of their schedules, this one could come together in a hurry.

According to a new report, both Paul Greengrass and Tom Hanks are currently in talks with the studio for News of the World. The movie is based on the best selling novel of the same name by Paulette Jiles. The screenplay was penned by Luke Davies, who previously wrote the Oscar-nominated Lion. At the present time, there is no word on who else would potentially be joining Hanks in the cast, but further casting is expected to be taking place in the near future.

News of the World is set in the days in the aftermath of the Civil War. The story follows Kyle Kidd, a widowed news reader who travels from town to town in reading the daily newspaper to the locals, many of whom can't read. Kidd is eventually offered a sum of money to deliver a 10-year-old orphan girl to her family in San Antonio, Texas. Her parents were killed by a Native American tribe who then raised the girl as one of their own. The two then embark on a 400-mile journey through rough terrain. The two develop a bond during the course of the journey, leaving Kidd with a personal dilemma as he comes to realize the girl's family doesn't want her and that they have awful plans for her.

The last time Paul Greengrass and Tom Hanks teamed up resulted in 2013's Captain Phillips. The real-life drama was met with a great deal of praise from critics and earned six Oscar nominations, including one for Best Picture. The movie was also a big commercial success, grossing $218 million at the global box office. Since then, Greengrass went on to helm Jason Bourne, the fifth entry in the Matt Damon-starring action franchise and the director's third entry in that series overall, as well as 22 July for Netflix, which chronicles the most deadly terrorist attack in Norway's history.

Paul Greengrass is known for tackling modern, real-world events in movies like United 93. But this will be his first attempt at looking at American life in the distant past. As for Tom Hanks, he was last seen in Steven Spielberg's The Post. He's also set to reprise his role as Woody in this year's Toy Story 4, with his Mr. Rogers biopic A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood also set to debut later this year. News of the World does not yet have a release date set, but that will be Disney's business in the next few months, as their merger with Fox is nearly complete. This news was first reported by Variety.
