Our report from May indicated that Newt had originally been scheduled for release in 2011, which was then pushed ahead to Summer 2012. It has been speculated that the success of Toy Story 3 was a reason to put Newt on indefinite hold in order to make way for more sequels. As it stands right now, Cars 2 will be released on June 25, 2011, Brave is set for June 15, 2012 and Monsters, Inc. 2 will arrive in theaters November 2, 2012.

With such a tight schedule in the works, it's no surprise that Newt fell by the wayside. The film could move into development in the future. We'll be sure to keep you posted with any further details on Newt as soon as we have that information.
