We've seen Nicolas Cage playing almost every kind of character imaginable, but fans should not expect to see him take on the role of a Jedi. Recently, Cage took part in his first interview of 2023 to promote his new Western movie, The Old Way. While speaking with Yahoo correspondent Kevin Polowy, the actor was asked if he'd be interested in joining the Star Wars universe, and he straight up said he wouldn't be up for it as his sci-fi loyalties lie elsewhere. Here's what he had to say when asked about potentially boarding Star Wars.

"No is the answer. I'm not really down. I'm a Trekkie, man. I'm (into) Star Trek. I'm on the Enterprise. That's where I roll."

Cage then went on to speak some more about his love for Star Trek, dating back to watching classic episodes of the original series with William Shatner to the more modern films starring Chris Pine. The Willy's Wonderland star also explained what he appreciates most about sci-fi movies, feeling that Star Trek captures these elements better than Star Wars.

"That's a fact. I grew up watching Shatner. I thought Pine was terrific in the movies. I think the movies are outstanding. I like the political, and the sociological... to me, what science fiction is really all about, and why it's such an important genre, is that is really where you can say whatever you want, however you feel. You put it on a different planet, you put it in a different time, or in the future, and you can without people just jumping on you. You can really express your thoughts... and Star Trek really embraced that. I thought they got into some serious stuff."

This revelation that Cage is a huge fan had Polowy hopeful that it would lead to the actor actually getting cast for a Star Trek project. He says that putting this out there on the internet may result in an offer coming Cage's way. That seems to sound great for Cage, who reiterates that he's a Trekkie and is much more eager to get involved with something like that than a Star Wars movie.

"I'm not in the Star Wars family. I'm in the Star Trek family."

Time will have to tell if Cage winds up in a Starfleet uniform. But, for now, fans can see him next take on the role of horror history's most famous vampire, Count Dracula, in the horror-comedy movie Renfield. It hits theaters on April 13, and you can watch the trailer below.
