Kevin Smith revealed on his latest Hollywood Babble-On podcast yesterday that actor Nicholas Braun will star in the director's new hockey comedy Hit Somebody. Nicholas Braun also has a role in Smith's upcoming horror flick Red State. Here's an excerpt from the podcast:

"The guy who's going to play my lead, whose name is Buddy McKraken in the movie, is a fella who's in our flick Red State and his name is Nicholas Braun. He's this really great actor who I love to death and he is the perfect lead for this hockey movie, for this script, which is based on this Warren Zevon song."

We reported back in February that Seann William Scott was taking the lead, although when he signed onto another hockey comedy, Goon, he was unavailable to star in Hit Somebody.

Kevin Smith will direct from his own script. The director also revealed during the podcast that he plans to shoot the movie sometime between July and September 2011.
